Brian Witt, wittwebsite Whiplash guitarist and vocalist
developed a passion for the guitar after being captivated by the “KISS Alive” album in the mid-70’s.

Influenced by the guitar duo of Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley, Brian quickly purchased a Les Paul copy (he continues to play Gibson and Epiphone Les Paul Standards) and began to hone his guitar skills to the likes of Kiss, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith and other 70’s era hard rock outfits.

In 1979, Brian met up with fellow axe grinders Tom Innis and
Tim Castagna and formed the band Amber, which participated in the first- ever La Follette H.S. Battle of the Bands.

After working through a number of lead singers, and adding drummer Harley Schmirler, the band officially became Whiplash in 1980, with Brian showcasing his musical versatility by assuming bass guitar duties. Whiplash was a staple on the La Follette party scene, and performed successfully at the 1981 Battle of the Bands. Shortly thereafter, graduations, college, and careers took their tool on the band, and Whiplash disbanded in 1982.

Despite the break-up of Whiplash, Brian continued pursuing his rock
and roll dream by virtue of a solo recording effort. Having amassed a
collection of recording gear and original compositions, Witt recorded
hundreds of original songs, some of which were featured on Madison-
area radio shows in the mid-80’s. This kept his chops in fine shape
when Brian reunited with Schmirler and Innis to form the hard rock
power trio Rex Kramer, which played several Madison-area gigs prior to
disbanding in 1988. However, Brian continued to record original
material, and has produced several compilations under the name Rex
Kramer over the years.

After a 15-year break from bands, Brian was instrumental in bringing
Whiplash back together in its current form by reuniting the band at the
“BW-40” gig at local venue Nelson’s Crossing. The gig, which was to
have been a “one-and-done” reunion party, created quite a stir in the
local music scene, and has spurred the band on to play regularly in the
greater-Madison area.
